Lonely Planet, the travel hobbyists’ Bible, has formally announced its official 「Best in Travel」 destination rankings for 2020.
And, hey! Standing proud, in place number 6, chosen above world travel hotspots such as Spain, Argentina, Croatia and the Brazilian Amazon – is none other than China’s own Guizhou Province.
But perhaps this result has you and some others feeling a little puzzled…
Of all the places in China, there’s got to be plenty of places more dazzling, more enchanting, more awe-inspiring and more magnificent than that place. Right?

As a territory riddled with sudden mountain peaks and deep valleys, in the past Guizhou been a difficult area of the country to traverse. Thus, the region has been and remains less developed for cities and tourism than other areas, meaning less of the associated noise, and better preservation of regional customs and culture.
In recent years, bridges hoisted high between mountains and roads that run through valley chasms have opened this old land up to the new world – new ground to explore!
